Courtney Finklea Green, M.F.A., Ed.S.

President

Courtney Finklea Green, M.F.A., Ed.S., is a dynamic leader, strategist, and advocate dedicated to driving transformative change at the intersection of public service, finance, and community empowerment. Her career is marked by bold leadership and impactful contributions that have shaped policy, championed women’s leadership, and built pathways for civic engagement.

A proud graduate of Sweet Briar College, Courtney has pursued advanced studies at Georgetown, Cornell, Villanova, George Washington University, and the Corcoran School of Art & Design. Her expertise in finance and governance led to her appointment as Deputy Treasurer by State Treasurer Dereck Davis, where she plays a key role in shaping Maryland’s financial strategies to strengthen the state’s future.

Elected as a DNC Delegate for Kamala Harris, Courtney represents Congressman Steny Hoyer’s District 5, bringing her passion for progressive leadership to the national stage. She also served as State Chapter Lead Director for Maryland Women For Harris/Walz, mobilizing grassroots networks and elevating women’s voices in politics.

Courtney’s dedication and impact have been recognized through numerous prestigious honors. In 2024, she received a citation from Governor Wes Moore for her role as a Democratic National Convention Delegate, representing Congressional District 5. Her commitment to education advocacy and community service was acknowledged in 2018 by U.S. Senator Ben Cardin. That same year, her exceptional leadership in education was celebrated with citations from Maryland State Delegate Darryl Barnes, Maryland State Senator Melody Griffin, Maryland State Delegate Nicholas Charles, and Maryland State Delegate Dereck Davis. These accolades reflect her unwavering passion for service, leadership, and community empowerment, cementing her legacy as a force for positive change.

As a visionary change maker, Courtney founded Mustard Seed Mom, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering mothers and families by turning obstacles into opportunities. She also serves as the President of the South County Democratic Club, fostering civic engagement and political action.

Her commitment to service extends to leadership roles in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the Junior League of Washington, and as an Emerge Maryland alumna. Her relentless dedication to uplifting communities and breaking barriers makes her a formidable force for progress.

In addition to her extensive leadership roles, Courtney contributes to the development of future entrepreneurs as a mentor and judge for Johns Hopkins University’s HopStart: Hopkins New Venture Challenge. This annual startup competition challenges students to develop business plans around novel ideas and pitch them to industry leaders. Mentors and judges like Courtney provide invaluable feedback and guidance, simulating the real-world process of soliciting startup funds from early-stage investors.
